Dragonfly "SciGirls" Science Camp Highlights
What happens when you pop water balloons, toss eggs, fly water-propelled
rockets or pull the tablecloth out from under the dishes? Apparently,
you get science.
Thirteen young scientists, from 5th to 8th grade levels, spent a week in
July learning about science, conducting experiments and having fun,
under the leadership of SDPB Education Specialist Steve Rokusek. Their
adventures will be aired as part of SDPB Television’s educational Kids’
Quest series.
The new Kids' Quest program
"Investigators on the job" will air in the overnight schedule
throughout the year.
The student scientists, from the Minn-Ia-Kota Girl Scout Council in
Sioux Falls, learned about physics and chemistry using simple materials
like eggs, water, clay, balloons, popsicle sticks, aluminum and paper.
Kids’ Quest Web site, under “Learning†at sdpb.org,
will offer South Dakota teachers a variety of easy-to-do experiments to
do in their own classrooms.
