Irish Poet, Stradivarius expert

Dakota Midday - 03/17/2009

"On today's edition of Dakota Midday, host Paul Guggenheimer began with a brief recap of Governor Round's press conference this morning with SDPB News Director Cara Hetland. Then Paul interviewed Patrick Hicks, Augustana College's Writer in Residence. Hicks is a dual citizen of Ireland and the United States who lived in Northern Ireland during that period known as ""the troubles."" He's written a collection of poems under the heading ""Finding the Gossamer,"" many of which discuss not only his experiences with terrorism in Northern Ireland, but also what it means to belong to two countries at the same time. And finally, Paul spoke with Joseph Nagyvary, professor emeritus at Texas A&M University who has researched what makes Stradivarius violins made in the 17th and 18th century produce some of the most prized sounds of the 21st century.
