This month marks the 20th anniversary of the student protests in Burma over one-party military rule and deteriorating economic conditions. Thousands of protesters were killed and Lian barely survived. Today he is a research associate with the Center for Constitutional Democracy in Plural Societies at the Indiana University School of Law.
