Curtis Austin; Paul Lasley

Dakota Midday - 11/05/2007

On today’s Dakota Midday, host Paul Guggenheimer interviews Curtis Austin, author of “Up Against The Wall, Violence in the Making and Unmaking of the Black Panther Party.” He’s speaking at the McGovern Center Conference, taking place today and tomorrow, about how Senator McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign brought minorities to the table for the first time. Later in the program, Paul interviews Dr. Paul Lasley, Professor and Chair of Iowa State University Departments of Sociology and Anthropology, who is delivering a free public lecture in Sioux City called “Apocalypse When? The Future of the Rural Midwest.” The lecture will address trends in rural America, the future of rural communities, and the ethanol “gold rush” and its significance for the economy, the environment and our lives.
