The Heartbeat and Rhythums of Our Relatives

Dakota Midday - 10/10/2005

Heartbeat and Rhythms of Our relatives: Honoring Native American Culture through music, is dedicated to those Native American musicians who keep their culture and heritage alive through the sounds of music. Host Ron Walters, former Executive Director of the Native American Journalists Association, introduces listeners to a variety of traditional and contemporary music from tribes around the country, including artists like Brule’, Kevin Locke and Walela.

The genre of Native American music goes far beyond the traditional drum and ceremonial songs and now includes the contemporary sounds of a piano, fiddle and guitar. Yet, the heartbeat of the drum continues to be at the center of the Native American cultural and spirituality.
