Relational Aggression and the Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls

"Relational aggression (RA) is a type of emotional violence whereby individuals use relationships to harm others. Examples include exclusion from a group and rumor spreading.National data report that adolescents are most concerned and hurt by emotional violence. Correlates of relational aggression include increased suicide risk, increased depressive symptoms, maladaptive eating patterns, loneliness, externalizing behavior, such as acting out behavior and substance abuse. Relational aggression affects both boys and girls.
