Native American Issues in Pierre

"W?ll take the hour to discuss legislation in Pierre that is important to Indian County with the four Native Americans in the Legislature. One bill calls on police officers to log the circumstances of all traffic stops and the race of the motorist to determine if racial profiling of Native Americans is occurring in South Dakota. Another dealing with racial profiling asked for motorists to be able to get license plates from any county. Also Native American legislators for the second year are looking to their colleagues put the federal Indian Child Welfare Act on the stat?s books. A recent ICWA Commission finished a report finding South Dakota is not in complete compliance with ICWA and has formulated recommendations for state and tribal agencies and lawmakers. And more issues lawmakers are tackling.
