Small towns and the Brain Drain, Political Junkies, and Fort Hood Shootings

Dakota Midday - 11/09/2009

On 11/09/09, host Paul Guggenheimer welcomes Patrick Carr, co-author of the book, "Hollowing Out the Middle."

The book addresses the issue of thousands of small towns in rural America being depopulated, or "hollowed out" by the "brain drain."

In the next segment, Kevin Woster, columnist for the Rapid City Journal, joins Paul to discuss the passage of the health care reform bill through the House and the smoking ban.

In the final segment, Aaron Glantz, author of a piece called, "After Fort Hood: Count All Dead." Hood says, "Perhaps the most depressing aspect of Thursday's shoot-out at Fort Hood is that none of the 13 people who died in the melee will be counted as casualties of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan."
