Great American Smokeout, "My Ranching Life," and the Edsel

Dakota Midday - 11/19/2009

On 11/19/09, today is the Great American Smokeout, when the American Cancer Society encourages people to quit smoking.  Jennifer Stalley, Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society, explains their decision not to appeal Judge Kathleen Trandahl's ruling reinstating enough petition signatures to refer the smoke-free law to the 2010 ballot.

Paul Guggenheimer also visits with Jean Laughton, a photographer whose exhibit "My Ranching Life" opens tomorrow at the Dahl in Rapid City.  The exhibit features her photos of the northern prairie and the ranchers who live there.

And Bill Napoli, owner of Motion Unlimited Museum and Antique Car Lot in Rapid City, makes his case that the Edsel got a bad rap.  Today marks the 50th anniversary of the day the Ford Motor Company pulled the plug on the Edsel, one of the most spectacular failures in automotive history.
