Unions and Gary Owens

Dakota Midday - 03/09/2011

With unions, especially public unions, feeling the heat following weeks of unrest in Wisconsin, Dr. Robert Wright talks about their impact on the economy.  Wright is the Nef Family Chair of Political Economy at Augustana College in Sioux Falls.  His latest book is "Fubarnomics: A Lighthearted, Serious Look at America's Economic Ills."  Wright is joined in the conversation by Mark Anderson, President of the South Dakota Federation of Labor.  Anderson says unions are largely responsible for the rise of the middle class.

Mitchell native Gary Owens appeared on the ground breaking "Rowan and Martin's Laugh In" on NBC from 1968-1973.  The show is now considered a classic and this weekend SDPB-TV will air a Rowan and Martin retrospective called "Best of Laugh In." Owens joins host Paul Guggenheimer for a conversation about his involvement with the show that paved the way for programs like Saturday Night Live.

Today's program gets underway with news from the South Dakota Legislature from SDPB's Stephanie Rissler.
