The Missouri River Flood Situation, Surge Troops Leaving Afghanistan, and "Ride with Larry"

Dakota Midday - 06/28/2011

Robert Kelley Schneiders is the author of several books including "Unruly River: Two Centuries of Change along the Missouri." He blogs from various points along the Missouri and says the Army Corps of Engineers is on the verge of losing the river.

Tim Schorn is an associate professor of Political Science at the University of South Dakota. He talks about President Barack Obama's announcement that the surge troops are coming home as he begins to wind down the war in Afghanistan.

Over the weekend, Parkinson's disease patient Larry Smith completed a 320 mile trek from Aberdeen to Vermillion on his recumbent bike. The ride was to encourage those with Parkinson's to stay active. He and his wife Betty, who accompanied him on the ride, talk about the ride and what it meant for them.
