Wages in SD, "The Interrupters," and "Buried Child"

Dakota Midday - 02/13/2012

This edition of Dakota Midday is hosted by SDPB's Larry Rohrer.

Stephanie Rissler provides an update on bill and events at the legislative session.

Susan Randall, Executive Director of South Dakota Voices for Children in Sioux Falls joins Lakota Funds Executive Director Tawney Brunsch. They discuss the Assets and Opportunity Scorecard 2012.  The report shows low wages in South Dakota compared to surrounding states.

Alex Kotlowitz is the producer of the FRONTLINE special "The Interrupters," which airs Tuesday night at 8 Central on SDPB-TV.  It is the story of three dedicated "violence interrupters"-Ameena Matthews, Cobe Williams and Eddie Bocanegra-who, with bravado, humility and even humor, work to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they themselves once employed.  Kotlowitz talks about the documentary and working with the interrupters.

Director J.D. Ackman and actor Michael Heuer are from the South Dakota State University production of "Buried Child," which opens Wednesday night.  Heuer talks about not only playing the role of "Dodge," but designing sound, and writing some original music for this production.
