Elementary School standards, River North Dance Chicago, Airport and the Arts Council

Dakota Midday - 02/21/2012

First, a legislative update from host Cara Hetland in Vermillion.

Then, John Decker is the Principal at Mellette Elementary School in Watertown.  Decker spent three days in Washington, D.C., earlier this month to discuss future education policies and the role of elementary principals in schools across the country. He made the trip as the state of South Dakota's Federal Relations Coordinator for the National Association of Elementary School Principals.  The NAESP supports principals, sets high standards for elementary principals and advocates for students and teachers.

Frank Chaves is the Artistic Director for River North Dance Chicago and Julie McFarland is the Director of the Academy of Dance Arts in Rapid City.  Specializing in jazz-based contemporary style, River North Dance Chicago presents dynamic works that combine athletic prowess and artistic perspective with bold, theatrical flair. River North Dance Chicago performs tonight at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls and Friday night at the Aberdeen Civic Theater.

Finally, Dan Letellier, the Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, saw a 25% increase in the number of travelers during the month of January.  Letellier will talk about the factors that led to the increase and about the airport's work with the South Dakota Arts Council.
