"Near Impunity" Art Display, American Routes and Antiques Roadshow

Dakota Midday - 03/08/2012

For the past five years, Texas-based artist Alice Leora Briggs has focused on Ciudad Jaurez, the Mexican border city that has been at the heart of the drug wars, as the foundation for her sgraffito drawings.  She has visited asylums, rehabilitation centers, the "death house," where citizens are tortured and murdered by the cartels, and the city morgue filled with the unidentified victims.  Briggs joins today's Dakota Midday from SDPB's Sioux Falls studio with Lindsay Twa, Director of the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana College.  The display "Alice Leora Briggs: Near Impunity" is on display there through April 14.

Beginning Saturday, SDPB Radio will air two hours of American Routes which is hosted by Nick Spitzer.  Spitzer is a folklorist and a professor of anthropology and American studies at Tulane University.  He visited with Karl Gehrke in this pre-recorded interview from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Antiques Roadshow will be visiting South Dakota for the first time in Rapid City Saturday, July 14, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.  SDPB-TV will be airing a special episode of Antiques Roadshow Monday night during which viewers will be given opportunities to guarantee themselves a place in line.  Antiques Roadshow Executive Producer Marsha Bemko has all the details in today's third segment of Dakota Midday.
