Dr. John Hibbing, Dakota Political Junkies, Missouri River Flood Conference

Dakota Midday - 03/28/2012

Dakota Midday is hosted by Karl Gehrke in Vermillion, SD.

The Dakota Political Junkies are Denise Ross, correspondent for the Mitchell Daily Republic and Jonathan Ellis, reporter/new analyst for the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. They talk about filing deadline for petitions for the June primaries (there are more Republicans running than Democrats for seats in the legislature).  Meanwhile, Stephanie Strong's petition to run for U.S. House did not have enough qualified signatures and they discuss Governor Daugaard's trip to China.

Tim Cowman is the Director of the Missouri River Institute at the University of South Dakota. Professor Michelle Skaff is the coordinator of the Missouri River Flood Conference which is going on at USD.  Cowman was yesterday's keynote speaker; his address was titled "The Anatomy of the Missouri River Flood."

The Political Science League at the University of South Dakota welcomes an address from Dr. John Hibbing entitled, "Predisposed: Why Liberals and Conservatives are So Different" at 7pm tonight at Farber Hall in Old Main.  The lecture is part of the W.O. "Doc" Farber Memorial Lecture Series. For nearly 20 years, Hibbing studied Congress, congressional careers, congressional elections, comparative legislatures, and public opinion toward Congress.
