Jazz and Blues, Bob Marley, Mel Antonen

Dakota Midday is hosted by Karl Gehrke in Vermillion, SD.

Mel Antonen is a sportswriter and South Dakota native. He discusses the history of amateur baseball in the state.  He's giving the keynote address "How Baseball Games in Yankee Stadium and South Dakota Are Alike" during the South Dakota Historical Society's spring conference on Friday.  "Playing on the Plains: Sports and Recreation" is the topic for this year's event.  Currently, Antonen writes for SI.com and does baseball analysis on MASN-TV, the station that covers the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles.

David Moskowitz, Professor of Music at the University of South Dakota's College of Fine Arts, has done extensive research on musician Bob Marley.  Cinema Falls will be exhibiting the documentary Marley at the Washington Pavilion Belbas Theater at 7pm on Saturday, one week before its national art house release.  Marley, the definitive Bob Marley documentary directed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald, is about the music, life and legacy of Bob Marley.

Brienne Maner of the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society joins us to talk about this year's Jazz Crawl and JazzFest. She also talks about Smokin' Joe Kubek performing with Bnois King at the Orpheum Theater in Sioux Falls tomorrow night as part of the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society's Concert Series. Their music is described as "red-hot Texas rockin' blues." Also, Last week, JazzFest announced that Joe Walsh will be this year's headliner.
