Dakota Midday - 04/19/2012

Dakota Midday is hosted by Karl Gehrke in Vermillion, SD.

KISD-AM was Sioux Falls' Top 40 rock station in the late 60s through the early 70s.  The station is being inducted into the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Ken Mills was a DJ on the station for a couple years beginning in 1967 and he talks about his memories of the station and why KISD-AM was important to Sioux Falls.  Mills will also talk about the passing of Dick Clark.

Internationally renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine is performing with the Aberdeen University/Civic Orchestra on Saturday in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.  She discusses her love of classical music and why it's important for her to share it with people around the world.  She'll also mentions her love of heavy metal and her doom/thrash metal band Earthen Grave.

Author Richard Maturi discusses his book, "Triple Crown Winner: The Earl Sande Saga," and the career of Sande, a hall of fame jockey. South Dakota native Sande (born at Groton) won 5 Belmont Stakes, 3 Kentucky Derbys and the 1930 Triple Crown on Gallant Fox.  Sande was in the first class for the Racing Hall of Fame and is considered one of the top jockeys of all time.
