"The Pact," Michael Lawson, SD NFL Drafts

Dakota Midday - 04/30/2012

Dakota Midday is hosted by Karl Gehrke in Vermillion, SD.

Michael L. Lawson is a historian and an author. He discusses the Missouri River and Native Americans.  He talks about the impact of the dams built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Missouri River as part of the Pick-Sloan Plan.  A partner in Morgan, Angel & Associates LLC, a historical and public policy consulting firm in Washington, D.C., Lawson is the author of "Dammed Indians Revisited:  The Continuing History of the Pick-Sloan Plan and the Missouri River Sioux."

Matt and Aaron Toronto are brothers who co-wrote and produced the movie "The Pact."  The film was shot in Brookings and tells the story of two brothers who swear off women for a year after some bad romantic breakups.  The movie shows Tuesday evening during the opening night of the Black Hills Film Festival.

Stu Whitney, Sports Editor of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, talks about three South Dakota football players who are entering the NFL.  Parkston native Riley Reiff (University of Iowa) was selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions on Thursday.  USD's Tom Compton was picked by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round.  And SDSU's Dale Moss of Brandon wasn't drafted, but was signed by the Green Bay Packers as a free agent over the weekend.
