Dakota Political Junkies, Kayak Challenge and Dave McGraw and Mandy Fer

Dakota Midday - 05/23/2012

Mitchell Daily Republic Editor Seth Tupper and Denise Roos, west-river correspondent for the Mitchell Daily Republic, discuss the Democratic primary race between Jeff Barth and Matt Varilek and whether their split positions on gay marriage will have any impact on the race. Tupper and Ross also discuss the coverage of Senator James Abdnor's death and the 40th anniversary of George McGovern's presidential run.

Jarrett Bies, co-founder of the South Dakota Kayak Challenge, talks about the competition that's taking place this weekend. The South Dakota Kayak Challenge pits racers against 72 miles of the Missouri River. Due to the Missouri River flooding last year, the event was cancelled. This year, nearly 200 kayakers are signed up to race in the competition. The 72-mile race starts at Riverside Park in Yankton at 7 am on Saturday and ends in Sioux City.

Arizona musicians/songwriters Dave McGraw and Mandy Fer talk about their tour on their album "Seed of a Pine." It was recorded last summer in Chicago. They'll perform at Latitude 44 in Sioux Falls tomorrow night at 8 pm.
