Engineers and Scientists Abroad, Great Plains Zoo, "Not Just High Water" and Shakespeare Festival

Engineers and Scientists Abroad (ESA) is a non-profit humanitarian group at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. ESA gives students the opportunity to use their engineering and science knowledge on the global scale through humanitarian effort and develops engineering and science professionals with international experiences and perspectives. Four senior engineering students are traveling to Tanzania and Egypt on behalf of ESA to field test and implement a water purification system, help with the development of the School of St. Judes and participate in an educational conference at the New Basaisa Tech Center. Dr. Thomas Fontaine, Professor of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and Tom Katus, who is helping coordinate the Engineers and Scientists Abroad trip to Tanzania, talk about the journey and how it's going. Also, Caine Shagla, a student who is participating on the trip, talks about what is expected on the mission.

Elizabeth Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls talks about the recent exhibit that is featuring 25 Japanese macaques (snow monkeys). The zoo is one of only 13 in the United States to feature snow monkeys. Also, Journey Museum Theatre Director Kristi Thielen talks about the 2-act drama, "Not Just High Water," taking place next weekend in remembrance of the 1972 Rapid City Flood. Twenty-nine Rapid City students ranging in age from 7 to 17 will perform in the production, which is written and directed by Thielen.

Author Lois Potter discusses her new book, "The Life of William Shakespeare: A Critical Biography." Also, Darlene Farabee, Assistant Professor of English at the University of South Dakota, discusses the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival production of "As You Like It," taking place June 8-10 at Prentis Park in Vermillion.
