Alliance for Aviation Across America, Trail of Governors and Monitoring Mount Rushmore

Selena Shilad, Executive Director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America, talks about the role that general aviation plays in the economy and communities in South Dakota. Shilad also talked about recent positions and explains why there is a need to protect general aviation.

Patricia Adam, a board member for Trail of Governors, talks about the unveiling ceremony for the bronze statues of Governor Arthur C. Mellette, Governor Harlan J. Bushfield and Governor Walter D. Miller happening in the Capitol Rotunda in Pierre Thursday at 1 pm. Adam is a lifelong resident of South Dakota and while growing up, she lived with her family in Selby. For four years, she lived in Pierre when her father, George T. Mickelson, served two terms as Governor of South Dakota. Through the years, Patricia has been active in many state and community organizations. She was also active in state politics during the time her brother George S. Mickelson ran for and served as governor of South Dakota. She also served as Secretary of the State for 12 years. Also, sculptor Lee Leuning joins Dakota Midday to talk about how he learned his craft of sculpting and how he worked on the three individuals.

Don Hart, Director of Law Enforcement at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, and Blaine Kourtemeyer, Deputy Director of Interpretation and Education at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, talk about the new rock block software installed to help monitor cracks on the famous monument. Hart and Kourtemeyer are both part of the ropes team that completed the installation. They talked about the installation process and how the monitors work.
