Tab Benoit and Friends Part 2

No Cover No Minimum Radio - 04/28/2012

Last week we heard the first half of Tab Benoit's concert from the Sioux Falls Orpheum Theatre on March 9th, 2011. This week it's the second half of that concert featuring his fellow bayou musicians Michael Doucet and Chubby Carrier.

Billed as a Swampland Jam, the Tab Benoit and Friends tour was like a moving musical feast of everything that made Louisiana Bayou music so distinct. It was a gumbo of Benoit's smokin blues guitar, Doucet's Cajun fiddle and Carrier's zydeco accordion. All three of these musicians are Grammy nominees - Doucet and Carrier are Grammy winners.

Tab Benoit learned the delta blues first-hand from legends of the art form playing alongside them at the Blues Box, the infamous club in Baton Rouge owned by Tabby Thomas. For nearly 40 years, Michael Doucet has studied, archived, promoted, and taught Cajun music - he was awarded both a United States Artist Fellowship and a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He's a founding member of the band BeauSoleil. And Chubby Carrier is part of a legendary zydeco family that includes his grandfather, father and cousins - he toured the world with Terrance Simien's band before forming his Bayou Swamp Band in 1989.
