This week, Mitchell Daily Republic web editor Denise Ross and Sioux Falls Argus Leader political reporter David Montgomery discuss the Kristi Noem/Matt Varilek congressional race. Other discussion topics include former congresswoman Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin's fundraising letter to Matt Varilek, how the Supreme Court ruling could influence Attorney General Marty Jackley's political future and what it means to be a Tea Party member in South Dakota.

Yankton businessman Ben Hanten talks about "Wire Me Awake," a one-day conference coming to Yankton on Thursday, October 4th. WMA is showcasing entrepreneurs and innovators from South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska who are doing rare things in the Upper Midwest. Hanten says "Wire Me Awake" represents a passion for growth and innovation, and it's something he's been chasing for years. Businesses are changing quicker, information is more open and people are attracted to collaboration instead of isolation. Hanten also says he really feels the Upper Midwest is on the verge of a renaissance.

Barb Gifford, daughter of Frank and Jan Gibbs, and artist Nancyjane Huehl talk about the art display going on at the Center for Western Studies at Augustana in the Madsen/Nelson/Elmen Galleries of the Fantle Building. The "Frank & Jan Gibbs' Collection of American West and Regional Art: A Tribute Exhibition and Sale" features art owned by Frank Gibbs, long-time chair of the Center's Art Committee; a collector of original art, with a special interest in illustrators; and a former Sioux Falls attorney and Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota. Gibbs and his wife, Jan, spent years collecting Western American art. Frank and Jan Gibbs spent 45 years collecting a treasury of western art, amassing 411 pieces, including work from contemporary, local artists and vintage work by Harvey Dunn, Seth Eastman and others.
