No Cover No Minimum Radio - 07/07/2012

This week, we're featuring the band Indigenous, recorded live at the 2011 JazzFest in Sioux Falls for No Cover No Minimum TV. Indigenous is a South Dakota grown band. The original line-up included Mato Nanji, his brother Pte, sister Wanbdi and cousin Horse. The band started in the basement of their family home on the Yankton Indian Reservation in Marty. They were strongly influenced by blues records from the 1960's-70's and guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. Indigenous' first album Things We Do came out in 1998 and brought national attention to the band. Indigenous released at least 6 more albums and actually toured with some of those legendary musicians who influenced them - including BB King and Santana. Since 2006, Mato has been the only original band member playing consistently with Indigenous.
