Flying Augie Professor; Great Grandson of Sitting Bull; Drought Report; and Ted Heeren

Dr. Timothy Sorenson of Augustana College talks about his flying experience in a FA-18. Yesterday, Sorenson got a chance to fly in a $28 million Blue Angels FA-18 as part of the U.S. Military's K-I Rider Program. He was selected, officials say, because of his work to expose mathematics and physics majors to career opportunities in the military, law enforcement and government. His flight coincides with the Sioux Falls Airshow 2012 set for July 21-22 on the campus of the South Dakota Air National Guard. The FA-18 was flown by Lt. Mark Tedrow.

Ernie LaPointe, the great grandson of Chief Sitting Bull, talks about his great grandfather. LaPointe has written "Sitting Bull: His Life and Legacy" and is presenting the family tales and memories told to him about his great grandfather tomorrow. He is discussing the discrepancies, how they occurred, and why he wants to tell his story of Tatanka Iyotake. LaPointe is signing copies of his book following his Picnic on the Lawn presentation at the Historic Adams House in Deadwood at noon Mountain.

State Climatologist Dennis Todey talks about the drought happening in South Dakota. He is on Governor Daugaard's drought taskforce. He discusses implications of the drought which is being described as the worst drought since 1988. Todey is also a part of a drought update scheduled for Monday evening at all eight SDSU Regional Extension Centers. They're located in Aberdeen, Lemmon, Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Watertown and Winner. Also, Ted Heeren, Rock Garden Tour's "Flower Man," talks about the live show happening tonight. Rock Garden Tour is doing a live show tonight at the Prairie Center in Sioux Falls to benefit the Avera Arts and Healing Program. SDPB listeners can listen to this show later this month.
