Dakota Midday - 08/22/2012

Kevin Woster, columnist and reporter with the Rapid City Journal, and Denise Ross, web editor of the Mitchell Daily Republic, join Dakota Midday for our weekly Dakota Political Junkies segment. They previewed this afternoon's congressional debate between Representative Krist Noem and challenger Matt Varilek among other items.

SDPB News Producer Kealey Bultena brings us conversation from Dakota Fest (including Senator John Thune), a three-day regional agricultural event in Mitchell. Also, Darren Hefty, co-host of television's AG-PHD, talks about the state of the ag economy and how it's been affected by the drought as well as this week's crop report. For more information about AG-PHD, go to www.agphd.com.

Stan Rauch, manager of Prairie Village at Madison, talks about the 50th anniversary of the Steam Threshing Jamboree. In an old tradition, farmers gathered with their threshing equipment to help their neighbors finish their work more quickly. Prairie Village at Madison recreates the tradition each year with a Steam Threshing Jamboree. It runs August 23-26 and features parades, the largest flea market in the area, steam and horse threshing, machinery demonstrations, tractor pulls, train and carousel rides, free musical entertainment, exhibits, food and family. For more details on the events happening at the Steam Threshing Jamboree, go to www.prairievillage.org.
