JJ Grey and Mofro Part 1
No Cover No Minimum Radio - 08/25/2012
This week, we're featuring JJ Grey and Mofro recorded live at last month's Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Festival JazzFest. You'll hear the first half of the concert - next week, we'll bring you the second half.
The music of JJ Grey and Mofro is a mix of southern rock, old-school soul and hard-knocks country. It's like a great growling soundtrack from a backwoods juke joint on a hot summer night - in other words, a perfect fit for JazzFest. The band has recorded five studio albums and spent a decade on the road. They've shared the stage with BB King, The Allman Brothers, Booker T Jones, Mavis Staples, Jeff Beck and many more. Their latest CD, Brighter Days, is a live CD/DVD filmed in Atlanta.
JJ Grey grew up in rural northern Florida. The land, the culture and the people there have had a deep influence on his music and the stories he tells through his songs. He also contributed a song to Buckwheat Zydeco's Grammy-winning album Lay Your Burden Down.
