Dakota Midday - 08/30/2012

State Representative Brian Gosch of Rapid City was one of the Republicans from South Dakota at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL. Gosch, who served as Speaker Pro Tempore in the last two legislative sessions, was among the delegates who witnessed Senator Thune's address to the convention last night.

John Grayson, Executive Director of the South Dakota Nonprofit Organization, talks about the company. The SDNA is a membership organization that works with the state's nonprofit sector by providing member organizations with the tools they need to carry out their missions, providing leadership training and technical assistance to member organizations, advocating for the nonprofit sector as a whole and facilitating networking opportunities.

State archivist Chelle Somsen talks about the 1912 footage of the South Dakota State Fair. To coincide with the running of this year's South Dakota State Fair, the South Dakota Historical Society recently added footage online of the 1912 State Fair to the South Dakota Digital Archives. The film shows fair goers navigating through Huron's dirt streets next to automobiles and horse drawn wagons, the fairgrounds with fair buildings and vendors, along with a merry-go-round, the grandstand and racetrack. The film's run time is 17:34 and a link is found on the State Historical Society's website. Also, Allan Greene, CEO and co-founder of LifeLight Communications, talks about the festival happening this Labor Day weekend. Greene also talks about the festival's growth with this being the third year at the Worthing location. The South Dakota festival is free to attend and has spawned festivals in other places in Texas, Guatemala and Haiti.
