On the February 28, 2012 edition of Statehouse Live education takes center stage. HB 1234 which was originally considered Governor Daugaard's education plan is currently working its way through the system, however it has changed significantly since it was first introduced at the beginning of session. The Chair of the Senate Education Committee Sen. Mark Johnston talks about the current status of the bill and what he anticipates could happen to the measure as it continues to work its way through the legislative process. Jim Holbeck the superintendent with the Harrisburg school district will share his concerns over HB 1234 and what passage of this bill would mean for his school district. Two lobbyists in Pierre will share their unique perspective on the issue. David Owen with the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry will talk about why he feels HB 1234 is a good piece of legislation and how it could improve the work force for private industry in our state. Diana Miller representing the Large school groups of SD will give her two cents on the issue and her hopes as the final days draw near. Eric Ollila with the South Dakota State Employee Organization will stop by to bring us all up to speed on pay increases for state employees and the possibility of a bonus for employees.
