U-S Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin has received backlash from her November 7th vote against the House health care bill. Some people say Herseth Sandlin should have tried to stop the bill by announcing her vote earlier. Others call for supporters to cut donations for next year’s campaign. Herseth Sandlin says these comments come from ideological extremes.

“Most folks in South Dakota want a vote on their behalf to reflect the thoughtful approach and broad understanding about the impact of provisions in the bill on them, their families, the state, and the country,” says Herseth Sandlin. “They want the health care system reformed in a responsible way that brings real benefit to South Dakota.”

Herseth Sandlin says her office hasn’t conducted any recent opinion polls on the subject of health care. She says she hopes to work with the Senate to pass health care that meets her standards of cost containment and increased access.
