Nanotechnology: The Power of Small
When it airs: Overnight schedule
Science; Grades 8-12. Three 60-minute episodes
Nanotechnology - the
science of manipulating matter at the molecular level - could one day turn
cities greener, make food healthier and even help people live longer. But the
trade-offs of these new technologies could compromise or outweigh any potential
advances. When scientists work with single atoms and molecules 80,000 times
smaller than a human hair, there exists both great promise and critical
concerns. NANOTECHNOLOGY: THE POWER OF SMALL, a three-part series of Fred
Friendly Socratic Dialogues, explores the societal, personal, ethical and
practical implications of advances in nanotechnology. Host John Hockenberry,
Emmy- and Peabody award-winning correspondent for NPR and NBC News, asks
policymakers, scientists, journalists and community leaders to wrestle with
real-world hypotheticals that will impact Americans' privacy, security and
health, and the environment.
