Join Professor Shakhashiri and friends in his lab for a series of captivating
scientific and artistic demonstrations.
#801 Sound, Waves And Music. You'll see and hear the effects of very low
temperatures on different metals. You'll also see fiery sound waves and hear
them resonate, and you'll enjoy sounds made beautiful by musical instruments.
#802 Moving It Fast And Slow. Professor Shakhashiri is joined in his lab
by Rod Schreiner to present a series of fascinating science experiments. In
these experiments magnets defy gravity and make a motor move. You'll see a vapor
move very slowly and then in the blink of an eye. Mixtures of chemicals, too,
don't seem to react, then suddenly change color. And you'll learn what it takes
to make a fire, and how colorful flames are made.
#901: Metals. A Colorful Family. Chemistry Professor Bassam Shakhashiri
uses metals to produce an assortment of colorful changes. He's joined by
colleague Rodney Schreiner to show the properties of a family of metals, along
with more colorful effects.
#902 Flashes, Flames, and a Flute. Chemistry Professor Bassam Shakhashiri
makes molten iron and is joined by friends to show reactions of gases, producing
flames and flashes of light. And there's a tuneful interlude, too.
#1001 Some Water and Some Gases
#1002 Colors in Chemistry and Music
