The War: A Film by Ken Burns

When it airs: Overnight schedule

WWII History. Grades 9-12. Seven parts
"THE WAR" tells the story of World War II through the eyes of a handful of men and women, in four American towns: Mobile, Alabama; Sacramento, California; Waterbury, Connecticut; and Luverne, Minnesota, who experienced the war years. Whether in the military or on the homefront, individuals recollect the conflicts, battles, victories, sacrifices, and support experienced by Americans.

The Library of Congress originally launched the The Veterans History Project in 2000 to collect the oral histories of veterans from all U.S. wars and already has more than 45,000 stories on file. SDPB will be hosting WWII-era stories submitted by South Dakotans on their web site at www.dakotastories.org under the Homefront SD link.
