Both democrat and republican leaders say balancing the state’s budget is the main concern for this legislative session. House majority leader Bob Faehn says the recession gives lawmakers the opportunity to downsize government. Senate minority leader Scott Heidepriem agrees that growth needs to be curbed.Heidepriem suggests capping spending to three percent or the rate of inflation, and reducing Full Time Employee positions. House majority leader Bob Faehn says republicans are looking at specific programms to cut. Governor Mike Rounds says he recommends that the legislature adhere to the budget he proposed in December.
