Several bills passed the state senate Monday related to sex offender laws. There was little debate when state Senators heard testimony for the proposed sex offender legislation. All four of the Senate bills that passed aim to ensure the safety of state residents. One bill reduces the grace period for sex offender registries from five to three business days. Another discourages out-of-state offenders to move into the state. Senate bill seven was also one of the four that passed. It allows certain sex offenders who are homeless or on parole to reside in a certain halfway home or homeless shelter that is within community safety zones. These bills now go to the house for consideration.Member stations can download audio files here.
