By Jenifer Jones Next year's high school freshman have a few more options to qualify for the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship, thanks to a bill Governor Mike Rounds recently signed into law. House Bill 1190 revises course requirements and the requirements needed to maintain eligibility for the Opportunity Scholarship. Students can now take career and technical education courses instead of language classes. They must receive approval from the Department of Education in order to make the change. When those students get to college, they will also be able to take 30 credits each academic year, rather than 15 credits per semester in order to remain eligible.
