By Eryn ClementSouth Dakota legislators may be cautious when drafting projections about how much tax revenue the state will collect in the next two years. A subcommittee of the Joint Appropriations Committee has recommended that the Legislature assume revenue collections for the rest of this year. Jim Terwilliger is with the Bureau of Finance and Management. He says issues are improving as the recession turns a corner but we can’t rely on stimulus dollars.“Forecast hasn’t changed materially but there are some positive things going on in the economy. The GDP growth is positive our federal employment report was positive our sales tax collection trend is improving but certainly there are some negative things, there’s a lot of uncertainty, what happens when the stimulus runs out,” says Terwilliger.Legislators plan to pass a state budget for the next fiscal year by Friday.
