RADIO UPDATE REPORT 6:30 PM (audio) 03-12-2010
Air Date:03/12/2010
This is your Statehouse Update, I'm Stephanie Rissler. Today is the last day of the regular session. Typically the day would end with the passage of the general bill outlining the next fiscal year. However, due to a bill that just passed in the U.S. Senate, South Dakota may be the recipient of federal funding that would help offset rising Medicaid costs.
Representative Bob Faehn says it places South Dakota in a tricky situation.
Senator Scott Heidepriem says that using the funds isn't the democrat's first choice when they have proposals to reduce spending.
Governor Rounds explains there are rules that are attached to the money.
The federal proposal has passed the U.S. senate and must now go through the House of Representatives. Lawmakers say that either way they'll decide the content of the general bill in two weeks.
