By Jackelyn Severin Governor Dennis Daugaard praised South Dakota teachers and parents Tuesday for contributing to the success of South Dakota’s education system. Daugaard says South Dakota students compete on a high level compared to surrounding states but he says more improvements are needed so they can compete nationally and globally. Governor Daugaard says in order to achieve economic development South Dakota’s education system needs to focus on science and math. Daugaard says, "That’s where the job growth is going to be, that’s where the best jobs are going to be and so if we want our students to be the prepared work force of the future we need them to be prepared in those areas."Daugaard says he will address how schools can improve in science and math while also facing possible cuts in his budget address next week.
