Governor Daugaard on SD's Accomplishments

Governor Dennis Daugaard gave his first State of the State Address today Tuesday at the State Capitol. Daugaard acknowledged during the speech that the recession has been difficult to weather, but he says the state has a lot of positive things going on as well.
"South Dakota has more jobs now than when Governor Rounds took office," Daugaard says. "We have made improvements in our gross domestic product, visitor spending, and capital investment. Our unemployment rate is second lowest in the nation. We have made substantial increases in ethanol production and wind energy. Our schools have received 109 million dollars more annually, than in 2003. We have record enrollments and dramatically more research in our state universities. And we have secured the future of Ellsworth Air Force Base, and continued the development of the Homestake Lab."
Daugaard says none of those accomplishments could have happened without a team effort from state residents, lawmakers, and Governor Rounds. Daugaard's next appearance before the legislature will concern his revised budget address, scheduled for January 19th.
