South Dakota Senators on the education committee heard from the state’s technical schools. Mark Wilson with the Department of Education says tech schools have shown accomplishments in education, graduation, and retention. But specialized schooling is expensive.
"With the combined breakdown of our budget, again more and more is being put to our student expense. What’s interesting though, however, across the nation, South Dakota, with the two year technical institutes, more and more is being put on the burden of the student," Wilson says.
With a budget crunch again this year, lawmakers spent much of the meeting discussing how to make K-12 and post-secondary education more efficient.
