By Kealey BultenaState Senator Mark Johnston says Governor Dennis Daugaard’s budget proposal reflects what South Dakotans want: a handle on state spending."Enough is enough. Let’s get our budget balanced. Let’s get some sort of stabilization to the amount of money that we’re spending as a state government. I think if you go around the entire body, depending on the house, you’d hear that message. But at the same time, we’re also hearing from the folks who rely on the money that the taxpayers entrust in us, that the services that they provide are vital. That they’re absolutely critical to sustaining our state," Johnston says. The first-term Republican says the governor’s budget proposal is one approach to getting South Dakota’s finances in check. Johnston says the rest of the session will bring discussions and new ideas about the best way to fix the financial issues. Member stations download audio file here.
