By Kealey BultenaSouth Dakota lawmakers heard from the area’s top Canadian diplomat Monday. Consul General Martin Loken addressed the Senate and House of Representatives about South Dakota’s relationship with the northern country."Thirty-seven percent of what South Dakota sells to the world is actually bought by Canada, and this relates directly to jobs right here in the state," Loken says. "Over 24,000 jobs in South Dakota are directly tied to trade with Canada. Moreover, there’s Canadian companies that have invested in the state and are creating and sustaining jobs right here in the state."Loken says Canada also helps support South Dakota’s economy, because more than 100,000 Canadian tourists make their way to the state each year.
