By Jackelyn Severin Governor Dennis Daugaard has proposed cutting the Department of Game, Fish and Parks by 22 percent. Game, Fish and Parks Secretary Jeff Vonk says although this may look like a significant cut, the department actually receives very little state funding. Vonk says, "I know there is still some panic across the state from folks who read that the department was taking a 22 percent cut in funding and of course when Governor Daugaard spoke to that issue he was speaking to the General Fund part of our budget."Vonk says Game, Fish and Parks obtains most of its revenue from other sources such as park passes, hunting licenses and federal funds. Vonk says the department raised camping fees last year by 2 dollars to prepare for budget cuts this session.
