By Kealey BultenaGovernor Dennis Daugaard spent several days touring South Dakota and talking to people about his proposed budget. He says he’s heard both support and concern about cutting state spending by 10 percent."I think it made me more conscious of the impact, certainly personified the impact that folks are seeing and worried about," Daugaard says. "It’s easy to think conceptually about the need to balance the budget. That’s a math issue. Then when you get out in the communities, you see time and again the people are affected and their concerns. So it certainly brings it home that these cuts affect real people."But Daugaard isn’t changing his recommendations that lawmakers eliminate 10 percent of funding, including for social and educational programs.Member stations download audio file here.
