Senators in Pierre have sent a measure to the House that designates one million dollars for a dairy plant at South Dakota State University.
State Senator Larry Tidemann says private industry has raised nearly five million dollars for the project, and all dairy processing equipment are donated. Tidemann says the million dollars from the higher education facilities fund updates what he calls an ancient plant.
"With the completion of this project, South Dakota State University will be the only university in the world – in the world, not only the United States – that will have a modern dairy processing plant that can put workers out in the food industry across the world," Tidemann says.
Tidemann says the dairy work done by SDSU students produces pasteurized milk, cheese, and ice cream. Just one Senator cast a vote against the bill.
