A measure to allow former state employees to lobby after they’re government job is done is on its way to the House floor.
Republican Representative Tad Perry says, currently, some officials appointed by the governor aren’t allowed to lobby for one year after their state job is done. He says lawmakers should eliminate that restriction.
"On one hand, I think it helps us recruit people into state government," Perry says. "On the other hand, I think it helps us have better lobbyists in the end if we have people who are experts and who know things about state government and who can use that in providing the quality of information that you and I deserve and need in carrying out the work that we do."
The bill passed through the House State Affairs Committee by a unanimous vote.
