Petition to Stop Coyote Hunting Bill

An on line-petition against a bill that allows the hunting of coyotes with Snowmobiles in South Dakota is getting signatures. The petition went online Tuesday and so far over 320 electronic signatures have been added to the website Change.org. SDPB's Charles Michael Ray spoke with an author of the petition for this story.
The petition opposes Senate Bill 55 which allows landowners to use snowmobiles to hunt coyotes. Pamela Black is a writer with Change.org and author of the petition. She says research shows that killing coyotes won't reduce the population. She adds that the practice is inhumane.
"To use a machine to chase them down and exhaust them to death or to the point where they're not going to run away from you is not very sportsman like," says Black.
The petition signatures come from more than 38 states plus Puerto Rico and four countries. Ranchers who testified in favor of Senate Bill 55 say it's needed to protect livestock.
