Representatives Launch Fireworks Bill To Senate

The House of Representatives has approved legislation that allows people to buy and use fireworks around New Years.
Supporters like Republican Representative Jim Bolin say the measure puts South Dakota in line with neighboring states.
"The state of Nebraska has expanded their time period for the sale of fireworks. What this bill does is it will help South Dakota match that time period. This bill is almost exactly like the one that was brought last year that was vetoed; the dates have been changed," Bolin says. "Again this bill will help keep South Dakota dollars in South Dakota, bring dollars in from Iowa and Minnesota."
Governor Mike Rounds vetoed the 2010 legislation, which started sales on Christmas day. This session’s bill allows the sale, purchase, and use of fireworks from December 28th to January 1st.
