SB 28 Reduces Speed Limit When Workers Are Not Present
Air Date:02/24/2011
By Travis Berg
The House passed a bill limiting speed zones through highway work areas. Currently you must slow down when construction workers are present. However when they are not present you can return to the regular speed limit. Senate Bill 28 allows the Secretary of Transportation to set speed limits in construction areas even when workers are not present. Republican Representative Brian Liss says some zones merit lower speed limits even when workers are not around.
Liss says, "There are some unusual circumstances where you have, for example, if the shoulder is being worked on and there's a drop off next to the shoulder this bill will help remedy situations like that where you want to keep the speed down."
S-B 28 passed with a 62 to seven vote. It heads to the governor's office and will take affect when it is signed.
